Three Poems
Hallie Woods
21st First Summer
In the past five months, I’ve molted off my exoskeleton
And emerged a different creature
One with angel eyes
A beautiful mind
And an aurora-like no other
Headstrong
Yet with a caring heart
I’m still waiting for my shell to harden
In the summer another year of my life will pass
Helping this creature emerge
Helping me crystalize my skin
Dear Summer,
I am writing to you with all of my heart
in hopes that you can help make it happen
I need to find the strength to listen to my heart without worrying about others
Finding happiness within life
And the people that I surround myself with
Guide me to someone who is made of dreams
Romantic soul and funny demeanor
Someone who will innocently dance with me in the rain
Yet fuck me under the stars
Bring my shattered mind into one piece
Help mend the cracks with gold
And allow my soul to grow
Heal me with your mid-day showers
Your fields filled with flowers
And the cool nights to kiss my sunburnt skin
Don't let me lose myself in the alcohol
The loud crowds
And bright lights
I don't want to forget you
I hope you recognize my hearting words
And take the time to guide me
My soul will forever be yours
Warmly,
Hallie Woods
I still sleep with my baby blanket
I still sleep with my baby blanket
Once bright pastels have now turned into muted colors
Sewn back together in the corners
Aged with love and tears
It holds all my hopes and all my fears
still as soft from day one
Clinched in my hand then brought up to my lips
Any pain from the day is washed away in that simple moment
The animals throughout it have seen me at my worst
But they will always be there for me when I need them the most
Everywhere I go it’s always by my side
23 years is a long time for a blanket
But no matter how many times I change the bedding
It shall always remain
She
Her skin is as fragile as glass
Without proper care
She could easily shatter
Gentle hands are a must
When they softly run down her spine
Only the softest of kisses on her neck
Don’t bite, she could crack
Her eyes were as radiant as the sun
She could light up the darkest of rooms
With just one single glance
Stare too long and you could go blind
Be careful or you’ll miss her beauty
Her lips are as soft as clouds
It's like my thumb is a breeze
as it dances across her bottom lip
There's no other like her
She kisses like an angel
Make sure you take care of her
Her body is like no other
She looks captivating in anything
The way her clothes illuminate her body
It always leaves me in awe
You have to be gentle when undressing her
